Hello and Welcome!

My name is Melanie Atherton, and I'm the creative mind and hands behind MAtherton Metals.

Everything you see here is a product of my creation.

From a young age, I knew that I wanted to be an artist. However, it wasn’t until recently I knew what that meant for me. Born and raised on the south coast of Massachusetts, I received my BFA in Jewelry & Metals (University of Massachusetts Dartmouth) after bouncing around for quite a bit. In the years prior to receiving my BFA, I dabbled in many mediums from industrial design to painting. I also received my MFA in Visual Arts in 2019. (Vermont College of Fine Arts)

If you would have told me ten years ago that I would become a professional metalsmith, I may have laughed. Both of my parents were metalsmiths having originally met while in school together. Unfortunately, neither are practicing. That’s why it is sort of bizarre that I have landed here. However, I wouldn’t have it any other way. My education as well as my personal experiences have undoubtedly led me to where I am today, and I can’t wait to see where this journey will take me.

Thank you for your support <3.

-Melanie

Interview with Field of Artisans
  • Rorschach - Silent Partner

    - I'm not kidding when I say silent. (Where even is he?)

    - Hands off approach.

    - Only available when he needs something.

  • Zelda - Quality Assurance

    - Takes her duties very seriously

    - First line of contact to the Silent Partner (a.k.a 'The Muscle.')

    - Has used her looks to get ahead, and she wants you to know it.

  • Ragnar - Studio Apprentice

    - Not really all that interested in being an apprentice. Thinks he might want to be a taste tester.

    - Master paper shredder, and will eat your lunch.

    - Struggles with ADHD but is working on it.

  • Furiosa - Temp Employee

    - Employed full-time elsewhere, but occasionally picks up shifts.

    - Kind of annoying. (Like Ryan from The Office)

    - Is a huge source of distraction to the Studio Apprentice.
